Weekend Recap: January 11-13

I've been such a slacker lately!  Sorry for the lack of blog posts.  It could just be that I have had a lot of other things to think about in my free time, like the fact that Ryan and I will be joining our best friends in Mexico tomorrow!  Well, we'll first meet up with them during our FIVE HOUR layover in Dallas (ugh), and then we'll be off to Cancun.  Woohoo!

I know I'll want to post about Cancun when I get back, so I did not want to forget to post about my past weekend.

Friday

-Pre-Mexico night with the hubs w/ margaritas and chips and salsa.  

-Watched the movie Collateral

-Organized some pictures for my wedding scrapbook (yes, finally!)

Saturday

-Family reunion in La Porte City

-Enjoyed playing with the babies at the family reunion

-Brooke was my hot date to our company party

-Watched football, had free drinks, danced with good work friends

Sunday

-Lazy morning

-Saw The Hobbit (for an unnecessary second time) in 3D at the Putnam Museum with Hannah

-Perused the mall for Mexico wardrobe

-Watched more football and relaxed with Ryan

It was a pretty jam packed weekend, as all of my weekends seem to be these days.  But I'm not sure I would trade in all of the memories and friendships for a more laid back lifestyle.  I'd rather be tired than lonely!  Happy Wednesday! :)

Brief Weekend Recap Jan 13-16

Every time I sit down to blog lately, I am reminded that I do not have a working camera and I do not have a flash on my iPhone 3GS.  So alas, these recaps are most likely pretty boring without pictures to break them up, so I'll keep it brief and throw in a couple relevant pictures from google.  I'm just going to have to do this until I get a new camera :)


Friday night:
-Met Jess at Azteca for chips and margaritas
-Sang some karaoke and stayed out later than anticipated with Jess, Ryan, Mat and Ashley

Saturday:
-AUDITIONS! I tried out for the King & I and Singin In the Rain in hopes of making the ensemble for one of them.  Surprisingly, my brother decided to try out too!
-Company Holiday Party at the Blackhawk Hotel.  Lots of drinking, some mediocre food, socializing with coworkers outside of work, and getting our dance on.

All smiles all night, hahaha

Sunday:
-Spent time with my Little and went to Beauty and the Beast in 3D
-Ryan and I enjoyed a night in and watched Moneyball

Monday:
-Woke up sick :( It finally hit me, the cold bug.
-I laid on the couch all day and watched Ryan play Skyrim.  Good stuff.

Let's hope I get a camera soon...HINT HINT Ryan! :) Let's also hope I get better soon, because I am very much looking forward to Girl's Weekend in Des Moines this coming Friday-Sunday.  Just wish I had a camera to capture it all (wink wink).

Company Holiday Party

I realize it has been quite a while since I last blogged!  Things have been crazy here.  We were in Vegas last week, and then we moved into our rental house and haven't had internet until last night.  So thanks for bearing with me, but I promise to start updating more again. =)

On January 15th, we had our company holiday party at the newly renovated Blackhawk Hotel in Davenport.  The hotel was absolutely gorgeous.  Ryan and I went with Ashley, Brooke, and Ryan M.  Ashley's boyfriend, Mat, came to join us later.  When we first got there, we got our name tags and two drink tickets per person...umm two?! As if that was enough, lol!  But Ryan was only having one drink, so I got one of his.  We managed to find extras throughout the night, hehe, so without going into much detail, I'm sure you can assume I was having a pretty good time!

They had a pasta bar and lots of delicious hor d'oevres.  My favorite were these salmon brioche things that had capers on them....yummmmm.  Also, the bartender had a heavy hand, so our drinks were awesome too!  After a couple presentations, the DJ put on some great music.  We had so much fun dancing and singing.  Yes, singing!  Did I mention that the DJ brought three extra mics so you could sing/karaoke?  Haha, that totally catered to the more tipsy of the crowd, but we all so much fun.

The highlight of my night, yes I am a nerd, we meeting Frank from The History Channel's American Pickers.  We love that show, and of course, Frank and Mike live here in the QC.  But the part that makes it a lot easier to interact with Frank is the fact that I work with his girlfriend, Becky.  Becky is a pretty good friend of mine at work, and after hearing some silly stories about me being incapable of introducing myself because I get starstruck every time I see Frank in public, she took me over to him to introduce me.  Haha, it was kind awkward, but as the night went on...it was a lot easier to talk to him like he was just a normal guy, so now me and Frank are best friends.  OK, not really, but I'm sure I'll see him more in the future and be able to actually TALK to him. LoL.  

After the party, we went to some bar (not even sure which one, haha), but we played pool and Brooke and Ryan sang some karaoke!  It was a really great night and an excellent send-off to Las Vegas (we left the next day).
